Signs That Make Open Water Swimmers Ask Why by WOWSA

Courtesy of WOWSA, Huntington Beach, California.

Signs like this in Lac Léman in Switzerland cause swimmers to ask why.

1. Is the water too cold? Too polluted? Too crowded with boats?
2. Is the lake privately owned or bureaucratically managed?
3. Is the lake dangerous or no lifeguards available?
4. Has the lake ever been swum in?
5. Has anyone swum across the lake, widthwise or lengthwise?
6. Has anyone swum the lake with or without a wetsuit and fins?
7. What if a swim can be done, who can I ask permission and who can be on my boat?
8. If a relay can be done, who wants to join me?
