Brazil will hold the World Aquatics High Diving World Cup and the inaugural World Aquatics High Diving Junior Championships in 2024

Brasília, Brazil is the stage as the city hosts the World Aquatics High Diving World Cup 2024, with the event also serving as the inaugural World Aquatics Junior High Diving Championships.

Following the high diving events at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, the best high diving athletes have another high-profile international event on their 2024 calendar as Brazil’s capital city hosts from 11-13 October.

“This year will be the first time we’ve competed in a World Aquatics event in Brazil which is cool. I’m passionate about growing our sport and introducing it to new fans because I know they’ll love it. So come and join us!” said Constantin Popovici of Romania, the reigning men’s high diving world champion.

Brasília | Global Qualifying Event for the World Aquatics Championships – Singapore 2025

More than 50 of the world’s best male and female high divers will meet in Brasília, a treasured UNESCO World Heritage site as the aquatics daredevils look to seal their qualification for the World Aquatics Championships - Singapore 2025.

Following the high diving’s 2013 world championships debut in Barcelona, the sport will once again be featured at the 2025 Worlds. High Diving World Cup marks Brazil’s 24th time hosting a World Aquatics event and the first time for the sport of high diving.

“As high divers, we know that people really enjoy engaging with our performances. It’s always really exciting to perform in front of new fans, and new places with new backdrops,” said Australia’s Rhiannan Iffland, the three-time defending women’s high diving winner at the World Aquatics Championships. “Whether we’re diving from a structure or a bridge, we will all be bringing our A-games to the World Cup.”

World Aquatics President Husain Al-Musallam expressed his delight with Brazil hosting High Diving events for the first time.

“We couldn’t be happier to bring the daredevil divers of World Aquatics to the fantastic city of Brasília. We know this thrilling sport will provide intense entertainment to the people of the city and far beyond. Having a new host step up for 2024 shows how this sport is progressing globally.”

Brasília World Cup Set to Also Host the World Aquatics Junior High Diving World Championships

The Brasília events will also serve as the first-ever World Aquatics Junior High Diving Championships. Junior divers aged 17-18 will compete from 15m and divers aged 15-16 will perform from 12m.

Helping the next generation of high divers progress in the sport is former world champion and current World Aquatics High Diving Chair Orlando Duque.

“It’s been incredible taking these young high divers under my wings. This sport resonates with younger athletes and has the potential to reach a much greater audience,” Duque said. “The progression of dives that these athletes undertake and execute just keeps improving. The World Cup athletes show what is currently possible while these young guys and gals are pushing the sport forward to what is ultimately achievable diving from the 27m and 20m above the water.

“I couldn’t be more excited about today’s announcement,” added Duque. “The High Diving World Cup 2024 season provides an ideal competition pathway from the World Aquatics Championships in Doha 2024 to Singapore 2025 while also bringing the next-gen into closer contact with their high diving heroes.”

President Antonio Silva said: “I’m very proud of the team we have built here at European Aquatics over the past two years and today’s unanimous decisions show a collective commitment to advancing aquatics sports and fostering cooperation within the European and global aquatics community. It is not a one man show but a movement that want to work hard together for the benefit of Aquatic sports in Europe and worldwide. 2026 EUROPEAN AQUATICS CHAMPIONSHIPS TO BE HELD IN PARIS - ST DENIS AS LEGACY OF THE OLYMPIC GAMES

Credit to: KMSP/S.Kempinaire

European Aquatics is happy to announce that the French Swimming Federation (Fédération Française de Natation: FFN) and its public partners have been chosen as hosts for the 2026 European Aquatics Championships in Paris-St Denis, where this year’s Olympic Games take place.

In a press conference in the French capital, hosted by the Ministry of National Education, Youth and Sports and attended by European Aquatics First Vice President Josip Varvodic and Executive Director Patrice Coste, it was revealed that the event would unite European aquatics around a common vision: that of a sport that is respectful of the environment, accessible to all, and focused on innovation and performance.

There is also a strong Olympic legacy, with the Olympic Aquatics Centre (OAC) and the Seine used for both for the Games and the 2026 event which takes place on the 100th anniversary of the European Championships, first held in Budapest, Hungary, in August 1926.

The OAC, which is the only permanent sports facility built for the 2024 Games when it will host the diving, water polo and artistic swimming will stage the pool programme, diving, and artistic swimming two years later.

It features a 10-lane, 50m competition pool and a temporary 50m warm-up facility plus a 22x25m diving pool.

Spectators will be able to watch Europe’s best swimmers including French world champions Leon Marchand, who is expected to be one of the stars of the 2024 Games, and Maxime Grousset.

The open water races will be contested in the River Seine where a competition venue will also be constructed for the high diving with men going off a 27m platform and the women 20m.

European Aquatics First Vice President Josip Varvodic said: “We are excited to have the opportunity to organise our top event just two years after what we are expecting to be an excellent Olympic Games for aquatics and which marks the 100th anniversary of our first European Championship in Budapest 1926. France has a long and successful tradition in our sport. I’d like to give a special thanks to President of FFN Gilles Sezionale and his team, the French authorities, who are completely engaged with the project, and all those at European Aquatics who work hard to make this event a reality. With the European Championships for 2024 and 2026 now secured, the future looks very bright for aquatic sports in Europe.”

France’s Minister for Education, Youth, Sport, and the Olympic Games Amélie Oudea-Castera said: “I am delighted that we can announce the hosting of the 2026 European Championships, confirming France's rise as a major organiser of major international sporting events, culminating with the Games in less than 6 months’ time and these European Championships two years later. But there is also great satisfaction in seeing how these sport events help in the transformation of our regions and, above all, the education of our young people.”

The President of FFN Gilles Sezionale said: "I'm delighted that, thanks to European Aquatics, we can hold the 2026 European Championships with 5 of our disciplines, something we haven't done since 1987. Our federation is delighted to be able to organise such a large-scale event, and what's more in the Olympic pool. We are honoured to be able to bring the legacy of the Paris 2024 Olympic and Paralympic Games to life, and we look forward to a bright future for French swimming, whether at the 2024 Olympic Games or at Euro 2026.”

World Triathlon President's Corner newsletter

Dear members of the triathlon family,

Welcome to the first edition of the President’s monthly newsletter. First of all, let me wish you a very happy and successful Olympic and Paralympic year. In a fabulous 2023, we crowned Beth Potter and Dorian Coninx as World Champions and saw incredible competitions all over the world thanks to our committed organisers and partners, athletes and National Federations, who all work incredibly hard to ensure the best possible stages for our athletes to compete on.

I really hope that during the holidays period you had a little bit of time to take a rest, because we have a thrilling year ahead! The 2024 season promises to be extraordinary, marked by so many events, including the Paris Olympic and Paralympic Games, the Championship Finals Malaga, the Multisports World Championships Townsville, Winter World Championships Pragelato and many other events. Our athletes, the heartbeat of our sport, are ready to inspire the world once more. And we all are ready to shine with them.

But beyond the thrill of competition, this season holds a lot of significance for World Triathlon and for myself. It's a season that calls for unity, cooperation, and a collective commitment to the growth and prosperity of our sport.

Together with our National Federations, we will forge stronger bonds, share more knowledge, and work harder on the development of our sport. It's time to move forward hand in hand, empowering each other to elevate the sport of triathlon to new heights.

Before we dive into February and the start of the new season, I will be travelling to Gangwon, in Korea, for the Youth Winter Olympic Games. A great opportunity to promote one of the newer additions to our roster of events, winter triathlon, with the aim of seeing triathlon included in the Winter Olympics programme in the near future. What a legacy that would be!

So, I wish you all very well as we get 2024 underway. This promises to be a magical year, so let’s make the magic happen together!

WATER POLO USA Mt. San Antonio College, USA Water Polo Adopt Memo Of Understanding For Water Polo Training, Competition

Walnut and Irvine, CA, January 17, 2024 -- Mt. San Antonio College (Mt. SAC) and USA Water Polo (USAWP) today announced the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) to form a partnership, centered around use of the college's new state-of-the-art aquatics complex.

The aquatics complex, which opened in spring of 2023, will be home to the U.S. Men's Olympic Water Polo Team as they gear up for the 2024 Paris Summer Olympics. In addition to serving as a training hub, USA Water Polo will hold competitions and training at Mt. SAC, including test events for both the men's and women's national team programs against many of the best teams in the world. USAWP member events, such as the prestigious Masters National Championships and age group national selection camps, will also be held at Mt. SAC.

Both institutions are co-creating a comprehensive agreement that will lay out opportunities and specifics of this developing partnership. During the last 10 years, water polo has seen consistent growth across America at the collegiate, high school and club level.

"We look forward to our new relationship with USA Water Polo and are thankful to have the opportunity to partner with them," said Dr. Martha Garcia, President/CEO of Mt. SAC. "We are excited at what the future holds and the opportunities that await the College and our students. It is especially exhilarating to expose our students to these world-class athletes and for them to see their dreams are possible."

The Mt. SAC aquatics complex, a sprawling 110,000-square-foot facility, epitomizes aquatic excellence. It features a versatile 59-meter competition pool, a 30-meter teaching/diving pool with movable bulkheads, and four competition diving boards. The complex, with horseshoe seating for 2,500 and the ability to expand with temporary seating to accommodate more than 5,000 spectators, will serve as a hub for medal-winning teams as well as national and international competitions. More than a sports facility, it is a dynamic center deeply connected to the community, offering teaching programs and immersive educational experiences for the Mt. SAC student body.

"Mt. San Antonio College is a longtime proponent of the Olympic movement and its new aquatics complex is consistent with that exceptional commitment to excellence - it is truly one of the finest aquatics centers in the world," said Christopher Ramsey, CEO of USA Water Polo. "We are fortunate to embark in this partnership, and I want to thank President Garcia and her colleagues for their vision of what water polo can mean to their student body and their community. Having the men's national water polo team training at Mt. SAC builds on their excitement in our journey to the Paris Olympic Games. We're thrilled to adopt this MOU, which provides a framework for discussion about future plans."

Over 250 up-and-coming elite divers between the ages of 14-18 representing more than 40 countries are expected to compete in the fabled sporting city.

Divers at the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships 2024 will be divided into two age groups: athletes aged 16-18 will compete in Group A while athletes aged 14-15 will compete in Group B.

Both age divisions will compete in the boys’ and girls’ individual platform (5m, 7.5m, 10m) and springboard (1m, 3m) events. The age groups will be combined for the boys’ and girls’ synchronised diving springboard (3m) and platform (5m, 7.5m, 10m) events as well as the Mixed Team Event.

Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre, the diving competition venue for the Rio 2016 Summer Olympics, will be home to the competition. Part of a greater Olympic multi-sports complex, the aquatic centre is part of an impressive cluster of nine sporting venues in Rio’s western neighbourhood of Barra da Tijuca that served as the central sporting focal point of the 2016 Games.

“Junior Worlds was the highlight of my junior career; it was the biggest competition that I had done. Looking back on it now, I’m appreciative of the experience as it helped me to get where I am, having gone to the World Championships on a senior level,” said athlete Ingrid Oliveira.

“I train daily in the Maria Lenk Aquatic Centre, home of diving at the Rio 2016 Olympics. As a fan of diving, I can’t wait to watch the next generation dive in this storied venue with world junior titles on the line. I am sure it will be an amazing experience for all the competitors.”

The World Junior Diving Championships mark the 24th World Aquatics event to take place in Brazil, with Rio de Janeiro playing host to 14 of these competitions. After a string of holding 20 World Aquatics events since the turn of the century, these championships mark the first time Brazil has hosted an international aquatics event since the Rio 2016 Games.

Brazilian Diving Federation President Ricardo Moreira expressed his excitement in Rio hosting its first World Aquatics event since 2016 when the Diving World Cup and the Olympic Games Artistic Swimming Qualification Tournament played an instrumental role in athletes realising their dreams of competing in the Olympics.

“As we prepare to host the World Aquatics Junior Diving Championships 2024 at the iconic Rio 2016 Olympic diving venue, we are not just organizing an event; we are crafting an opportunity for the future of diving in Brazil. Welcoming the world's top junior divers to our shores signifies a momentous step for our sport. This event is a platform for our emerging elite divers to showcase their talents on home turf, providing them with invaluable exposure and experience.

“Hosting a major international age-group competition is more than an honour; it is a catalyst for the trajectory of our young divers' careers. It symbolises a commitment to nurturing talent, fostering growth, and creating a legacy that extends beyond the competition itself. As these talented athletes take to the boards, they are not just diving; they are soaring towards their dreams.”

First held in 1977 in Woodlands, USA, the World Aquatics Junior Championships in Rio de Janeiro will be the event’s 25th edition. Montreal, Canada hosted the preceding Junior Diving Championships in December 2022.

Landsholdschef, Thomas Stub

High Performance Advisor, Lars Robl (deltid) - læs mere her

Mentor, offenttliggøres i uge 3

Trænercoach, offentliggøres i uge 4

Faglig uddannelseskoordinator, Christine Eilertsen (udlånt af Gentofte Svømmeklub)

NTC træner, Jon Langberg

Fysisk træner, Nicolai Poulsen

Sportskoordinator, Martin Karup

Eltid og materiale, Karsten Elm

Kommunikation og presse, Klaus Bach Christensen

Organisationsændringerne træder i kraft pr. 1. februar 2024.
