Keeping The Eye On The Prize - by WOWSA

Canada's
Jade Dusablon finished 22nd at her first race at the 2015 FINA World Swimming Championships. Along the way, she received a typical welcome to world-class international competition when an errant kick caught her in her upper eye.

FINA swimming officials have a close-up view of the competition from the official's boats at the World Championships. They know that the women are extremely competitive and extraordinarily aggressive - more so than the men. Smiles and hugs on terra firma are often replaced by elbows and pull-backs in the water. The women may be gracious and friendly on dry land, but once the start gun goes off, civility and camaraderie are put aside until the finish line is crossed.
