USA WATER POLO Adam Krikorian Shares Thoughts On Olympic Team Nominee Announcement Moving To June 23

Irvine, CA - June 3 - USA Water Polo Women's National Team Head Coach Adam Krikorian shared his thoughts on moving the team nominee announcement for the U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team to June 23.

"Our experience over the last 14 months, not to mention this entire journey, has been unarguably unique.  We have had to manage through consistent change and seemingly relentless uncertainty.  Today is no different.

Following certain traditions, our hope and plan was that June 3rd would be the day in which we could publically and confidently announce the selection of the 2021 Olympic Team.  However, it has become abundantly clear over the last 3 weeks that our hope is not a reality.  Making decisions that are best for the team has always been paramount, therefore, we will be postponing the announcement until June 23rd.

After a 453 day stretch in which we were void of any official games, we have finally been able to compete against someone other than ourselves welcoming Canada and Hungary. Now we look forward to training in Spain next week and then competing in the FINA World League Super Final in Athens, Greece (June 14-19).  The knowledge (and joy) gained over the last two weeks and the lessons that we will continue to learn during our first travel trip in 15 months are essential pieces to this puzzle.  Through it all, we have preached the importance of resilience, mental flexibility, and adaptability. Those values will continue to stand tall for this team throughout the completion of the Games.  We appreciate your support and understanding."

The 13 nominees to the U.S. Olympic Women's Water Polo Team will be announced at 11am on June 23 in Los Angeles, CA at the Doubletree by Hilton Hotel. Media interested in attending can RSVP by replying to this email or contacting media@usawaterpolo.org.
