FINA OLYMPIC MARATHON SWIM QUALIFIER 2021 - 50 Marathon swimmers for Tokyo 2020 confirmed

Following the FINA Olympic Marathon Swim Qualifier this weekend in Setbual, where 98 athletes swam for an Olympic berth, 25 men and 25 women are now confirmed for the Marathon Swimming event at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games this summer to take place on August 4 (women) and 5 (men) at the Odaiba Marine Park.

15 places were on offer for each gender on Saturday June 19 (women) and Sunday June 20 (men).

The women's race in Setubal was won by Hungary’s Anna Olasz, who touched home in 2h0m55s4. Right behind her came Paula Ruiz of Spain in 2h01m57s9 for silver. Canada’s Kate Sanderson claimed bronze on Saturday and closed the podium in 2h01m58s4.

The men's competition saw a victory for Great Britain's Hector Pardoe in 2h02m07s5. The Greek Athanasios Kynigakis placed second in 2h02m13s0 to take silver, while another British swimmer, Tobias Robinson, closed the podium with a time of 2h02m13s0. Despite claiming the bronze medal at stake on Sunday, Robinson did not qualify for the Olympic Games, as only one athlete per National Federation could secure a spot at this event.
