On the second competition day of the 2021 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships in Poznan young competitors paddled in the 500 and 1000 metres semifinals as well as in the 200 metres heats.
In the morning part of the programme
on the Malta Lake the semifinals in the 500 and 1000 metres events were held
and the names of those who will fight for the medals on Saturday and Sunday
were revealed. The top athletes and nations were safely through, so exciting
finals are expected in the next two days.
In the afternoon, the heats in the
200 meters events were on. Spain's Joan Moreno produced the fastest time in
men's U23 C1 200m heats at the same venue where he celebrated his senior
European Champion title earlier this month. Jakub Stepun (POL) showed power in
men's U23 K1 200m heats by having the fastest time of the day, while in women's
kayak 200 metres heats in U23 category Adrienn Orosz (HUN) topped the results
table. The defending champion in this event from the 2019 European
Championships in Račice, Biljana Relić from Serbia, did not start due to an
injury. Mariami Kerdikashvili from Georgia had the best time in women's U23 C1
200 metres heats, and Moldova's Daniela Cociu and Maria Olarasu had the best
overall time in women's C2 U23 200m heats.
In the junior part of the competition
Russian representatives did well in the 200 metres heats. Anna Pivovarova was
on the top of the overall results of the day in women's junior K1 200m event,
her teammate Iuliia Babashinskaia managed to produce the best time in women's
K1 event and Nikita Builov won in men's junior K1 200 metres heats. Aliaksander
Zubok from Belarus was the fastest paddler of the day in men's junior C1 200
metres heats, while Hungarian duo Agnes Kiss - Zsofia Csorba produced the best
time in women's junior C2 200 metres event.
On Saturday morning, the 1000 metres
finals are on the programme, while in the afternoon the 200 metres semifinals
will follow.
