Poznan, one of the oldest cities in Poland, is ready to host the second major international canoe sprint competition of the year 2021. Following the Senior Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships in early June, the Malta Lake will now host the 2021 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships.
Poznan is the European Canoe Sprint
capital this year. First, Poland was awarded the Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint
European Championships which starts this Thursday, and following the
cancellation of the Senior European Championships in Duisburg, Polish
organisers took over the organisation of senior canoe sprint and paracanoe
European Championships in the last minute. The event in early June was a
success and the last test for the best Europe’s canoe sprinters before the
Olympic Games.
Now, it is time for the future stars
of canoe sprint to show their form on the Malta Lake. Over 750 athletes from 37
European countries will participate at this year’s Junior and U23 European
Championships. The list of participating nations includes: Armenia, Austria,
Azerbaijan, Belarus, Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Cyprus, Czech Republic,
Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Georgia, Germany, Greece, Hungary, Ireland,
Israel, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Netherlands, North Macedonia, Norway, Poland,
Portugal, Republic of Moldova, Romania, Russia, Serbia, Slovakia, Slovenia, Spain,
Switzerland, Turkey and Ukraine.
Even though this is the junior and
U23 European Championships familiar names from Senior level competitions are on
the start list and include Mariana Petrušova, Petr Fuksa, Anežka Paloudova,
Maria Virik, Thorbjorn Rask, Ronan Foley, Uladizlasu Litvinau, Arturas Golovac,
Marija Dostanić, Branko Lagundzić, Alina Svita, Mariami Kerdikashvili, Laia
Pelachs, Vanesa Tot, Annika Loske, Laura Ruiz, Eugenie Dorange and many more.
On Thursday the championships will
kick off with heats in the 1000 and 500 metres distances.
