Mercredi prochain débuteront les LEN European Short Course Swimming Championships, où la Suisse sera représentée par 3 nageuses et 5 nageurs.
L'équipe suisse
Les huit athlètes se rendront à Glasgow le dimanche 1er décembre et les épreuves commenceront le mercredi 4 décembre. L'équipe sera emmenée par Maria Ugolkova, médaillée de bronze de l'année dernière.
Plusieurs athlètes, dont le meilleur nageur suisse Jérémy Desplanches, ne participeront pas à ce championnat d'Europe en petit bassin pour diverses raisons.
L'équipe sera dirigée par Markus Buck, chef du sport d'élite. Il sera assisté par les entraîneurs Massimo Meloni (Training Base Tenero), Dirk Reinicke (Limmat Sharks Zurich) et Pablo Kutscher (Uster Wallisellen), ainsi que le physiothérapeute Hugo Pinto.
Les objectifs
Le CEPB est la compétition but en bassin de 25m. Il est ainsi une compétition pour les « spécialistes « d’une part, et offre, d’autre part, aux athlètes prometteurs la possibilité de gagner d’importantes expériences. Pour les spécialistes du petit bassin, l’objectif est de s’établir près de l’élite européenne, d’atteindre au moins une demi-finale, resp. une place dans le TOP16 ou mieux. En outre, dans la confrontation directe avec l’élite européenne, l’athlète devrait gagner de l’expérience de compétition au plus haut niveau.
Situations individuelles
- Au 200m 4-nages, Maria Ugolkova compte parmi les candidates à la médaille. Elle est dans une forme impressionnante, Ugolkova a établi pas moins de 6 records de Suisse le mois dernier. Il y a deux ans, elle a manqué de peu la médaille en terminant à la quatrième place. Est-ce que ça va marcher cette fois-ci ?
- Lisa Mamié (record au 50m brasse) et Thierry Bollin (record au 100m dos) se rendent également à Glasgow après avoir établi plusieurs nouveaux records de Suisse cette saison. Mamié veut atteindre la finale du 200m brasse où tout sera possible.
- Bollin veut confirmer son record du 100m dos et progresser encore un peu plus sur 50m dos. Très en forme actuellement, Bollin sera également prêt pour la finale.
- Yannick Käser a manqué de peu son record de Suisse au championnat suisse en petit bassin. S'il réussit à améliorer ce temps cette fois-ci, une qualification pour la finale sera possible.
- Le champion d'Europe junior Noè Ponti a réalisé des performances prometteuses durant l'automne. Pourra-il encore progresser et se qualifier pour les demi-finales ?
- Nina Kost, qui a les meilleures chances d'atteindre les demi-finales au 50m libre et au 50m dos, poursuit aussi le même objectif.
- Sinan Rüegg et Thomas Hallock participeront pour la première fois à des championnats internationaux. De nationalité suisse, Hallock vit à l'étranger, aux Etats-Unis, et s'entraîne à la Virginia Tech University. Il y est entraîné par le médaillé olympique espagnol de 1988 et entraîneur vedette américain Sergio López Miro, qui a également entraîné le champion olympique Joe Schooling (Singapour).
- Un exploit du relais 4-nages mixte n'est pas à exclure. La composition d'équipe de relais sera déterminée sur place.
