ECA's Board of
Directors held a meeting and decided who will host the 2024 ECA European
Championships in different canoeing disciplines. They have also appointed the
technical delegates for all disciplines and new canoe sprint and canoe slalom
committee members.
With the season 2021
slowly kicking off in several European countries, the ECA Board of Directors
held a meeting to award the European Championships in the season 2024. The
selection was difficult especially in canoe sprint where many bids were sent.
At the end, the organisation of the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe
European Championships was awarded to Szeged, Hungary. The venue hosted
numerous major international canoeing events in the past years, however, it has
last hosted senior Canoe Sprint European Championships back in 2002.
The 2024 ECA Junior
and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships will lead young athletes to
Montemor-o-Velho, Portugal, another traditional venue of the big canoeing
events. The 2024 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will be held in
Ljubljana - Tacen, Slovenia. This will be the third European Championships
organised on this venue, following the successful events in 2005 and 2017. The
2024 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Slalom European Championships will be in Krakow,
Poland.
The 2024 ECA Ocean
Racing European Championships was awarded to Portugal and Azores Islands, but
the venue will still have to pass the technical inspection. The decision on the
host of the 2024 ECA Canoe Marathon European Championships has been postponed
following the request by ECA's technical delegate for canoe marathon, who needs
to make technical inspection of the two venues first. The 2024 Canoe Freestyle
and Junior and U23 Wildwater Canoeing European Championships await the bids for
the organisation.
Board of Directors
also voted on the technical delegates for all the disciplines as well as canoe
sprint and canoe slalom committee members. Jovana Stanojević (SRB) was elected
technical delegate for canoe sprint. She is the chair of the committee, while
Michel Letienne (FRA) and Marika Dognerova (CZE) have been elected members of
the canoe sprint committee.
Andrej Jelenc (SLO)
remains the canoe slalom technical delegate and will be the chair of the committee
in the next period. Colin Woodgate (GBR) also stays the member of the canoe
slalom committee, while Sebastien Chaplais (FRA) became new member of the canoe
slalom committee.
Ruud Heijselaar (NED)
was elected technical delegate for canoe marathon, Gianluca Zannoni (ITA) stays
technical delegate for canoe polo, Manuela Gawehn (GER) will continue as
technical delegate for wildwater canoeing, David Szlachta (FRA) is technical
delegate for ocean racing, Elena Iskhakova (RUS) is technical delegate for dragon
boat, Nina Csonkova (SVK) for canoe freestyle, and Jane Gibson (GBR) is ECA's
