We are just a day away of one the biggest
highlights of the European canoeing season 2024 – the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint,
Paracanoe and SUP European Championships which will take place between 12 and
16 June in Szeged, Hungary.
Hungarian city of Szeged will turn into the canoe
sprint capital for the second time this year. In May, the Szeged Olympic Center
hosted European Olympic qualifier event as well as the first ICF World Cup race
of the season, and now the venue awaits the best European canoe sprint,
paracanoe and SUP competitors. This will be the first ever SUP European
Championships under the auspices of the ECA, while it will be the 22nd edition
of Canoe Sprint European Championships under the ECA umbrella in addition to the
2022 Multisport European Championships and three editions of the European
Games.
Athletes from 36 countries will compete in the
canoe sprint part of the European Championships, there will be representatives
of 17 countries in the paracanoeing events and 21 European nations will be
represented in SUP European Championships.
The competition programme will include both Olympic
and non-Olympic events, Paracanoeing events and SUP inflatable, long distance,
sprint and technical race.
The championships will kick off on Wednesday with
SUP races. In the morning the first stages of the technical race are on the
programme and in the afternoon the SUP sprint heats, quarterfinal and semifinal
will follow.
On Thursday, men’s K4 500 metres heats will open
the canoe sprint part of the European Championships, followed by 1000, 200 and
500 metres heats. The first paracanoeing events are also scheduled for
Thursday, as well as SUP long distance races.
Friday will start with semifinals in canoe sprint,
and the first sets of medals in canoe sprint and paracanoeing will be awarded
in the afternoon. We will see eight canoe sprint A finals, two paracanoe finals
as well as SUP sprint finals A.
Saturday will start with paracanoeing finals and
continue with 200, 500 and 1000 metres finals. On Saturday, we will also follow
SUP technical race finals and inflatable race finals, as well as more 1000, 500
and 200 metres A finals.
The Championships of the Old Continent will
conclude on Sunday. This day will bring five paracanoeing finals, remaining
1000, 500 and 200 metres canoe sprint finals, and in the last part of the
competition also the 5000 metres events.
During the championships which will be packed with
exciting action, the organisers also included into the programme other events,
such as KT-1 and KT-2 Special Olympics, and MK4 events for girls and boys and
MC4 mixed races.
The A finals of the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint,
Paracanoe and SUP European Championships on Friday, Saturday and Sunday will be
streamed online exclusively at Eurovision Sport platform
www.eurovisionsport.com, while the Wednesday’s and Thursday’s programme and
non-televised events will be live on www.youtube.com/CanoeEurope. The following
TV stations will broadcast the Championships between Friday and Sunday: MTVA
Hungary, Ceska TV Czechia, JOJ Sport Slovakia, RTP Portugal, RTVE Spain, RAI
Sport Italy, RTV Slovenia.
