Multisport Championships
World
Triathlon is looking for a Host City or region for the 2028 World Triathlon
Multisport Championships. Over 4,000 athletes from all over the world will
enjoy another week-long festival of the sport with friends and family,
gathering for what has become in the last years one of the pinnacle events for
World Triathlon and the extended triathlon community.
The
Multisport Championships, which made its debut in the World Triathlon calendar
in 2017, bring together the world’s triathletes in a diverse format.
Approximately 4,000 athletes – from grassroots to elite level – are expected to
compete across six unique events: the Long Distance World Championships, the
Duathlon World Championships (Sprint and Standard), Cross Triathlon World
Championships, Cross Duathlon World Championships and Aquathlon World
Championships.
The World
Triathlon Multisport Championships made its debut in the World Triathlon
calendar in 2017 in Penticton, Canada. In 2023, the event was hosted in Ibiza,
Spain, while in 2024 the Multisport community will gather in August in the city
of Townsville, Australia. The 2025 Multisport Championships will see world
championship racing return to Pontevedra, Spain. In 2026, the event will travel
to Abu Dhabi, in the UAE, while in 2027 the Multisport champions will be
crowned in Edmonton, Canada.
The World
Triathlon Multisport Championships is more than just a sports competition for
the athletes. It is also an important development opportunity from the
grassroots to elite level, giving athletes from a wide range of Age-Groups the
opportunity to race. The entire occasion is a visual spectacle designed to
inspire and motivate, from the experienced to the newcomer.
The
Multisport Championships will have international TV, mainstream media and
online coverage, and reach millions of eyes via World Triathlon social media
channels and those of the competitors. As a result, hosting the event will
provide a major boost for local tourism and enhance the Host City’s global
profile. With the planned attendance of thousands of competing athletes,
families and support teams and widespread coverage, the positive economic
impact on the Host City can be enormous.
Interested
cities must submit their applications before 15 September, 2024.
The
selection and announcement of the Host City will take place on 10 December,
