HELLWIG WANTS TO CONTINUE HIS MEDAL STREAK

Germany’s Tim Hellwig has had a stunning season featuring a silver medal in the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, a gold medal last weekend in Chengdu and is looking to continue his success in South Korea. Hellwig will be up against the defending champion in Tongyeong Matthew McElroy (USA), who won here in 2022 in a winning time of 01:44:49. Azerbaijan’s Rostislav Pevtsov is another medal contender this weekend after a dominant performance last week in China to earn the bronze.

MISLAWCHUK EYEING PODIUM SUCCESS

Canada’s Tyler Mislawchuk brings a wealth of experience and talent to the men’s field in Tongyeong. Mislawchuk came 9th in the 2023 World Triathlon Championship Finals in Pontevedra, showing what a world class act the Canadian athlete is. Mislawchuk will start his Asian tour in Tongyeong this weekend and will continue to race again next weekend in Miyazaki, Japan.

GERMAN BATTLE WITH SCHOMBURG AND PRIESTER

Jonas Schomburg was finally awarded the World Cup medal he had been searching many years for, in the 2023 World Triathlon Cup Karlovy Vary. Schomburg isn’t afraid to ride off the front or attack and ride solo and will likely be a major contender in setting up Saturday’s men’s race. Germany’s Lasse Nygaard Priester will be looking for redemption after not having the race he was after last weekend in Chengdu. The likes of young gun Oscar Dart and Commonwealth Games representative Luke Willian will be ones to watch. 2023 Africa Champion Jamie Riddle (RSA) will be looking to show his powerful and aggressive racing style and won’t be shy of attacking off the front and making an impact on the race early on.
