Ireland will have three swimmers in
action at the European Championships in Rome this evening with Darragh Greene
and Danielle Hill advancing to semi-finals joining Mona McSharry who competes
in the 100m Breaststroke Final.
Hill, competing in the 50m
Backstroke, advances in thirteenth place in 28.54. The Larne swimmer was a
finalist in the event at the Commonwealth Games just last week where she placed
seventh in 28.29.
Darragh Greene will be competing in
his second semi-final this week in the 200m Breaststroke, having made it to the
100m Breaststroke semi-finals on Thursday. The Tokyo Olympian was third in his
heat and advances seventh overall in 2:12.53.
Eoin Corby, also swimming the 200m
Breaststroke was eighteenth overall in 2:14.75 and is the second reserve for
this evening’s semi-final.
Irish interest in this evening’s
finals starts with Mona McSharry in the 100m Breaststroke Final at 5.28pm
(IRL), followed by Danielle Hill in the 50m Backstroke Semi-Final at 5.57pm and
Darragh Greene in the 200m Breaststroke Semi-Final at 6.04pm.
Also, in action this morning,
Victoria Catterson clocked 2:02.56 in the 200m Freestyle. Brendan Hyland was
the best of the Irish swimmers in the 100m Butterfly touching in 53.36 ahead of
Shane Ryan (54.29) and Max McCusker (54.36).
