The 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe
Slalom European Championships in Ceske Budejovice, Czech Republic, concluded
with canoe finals and extreme slalom, and big celebration of host nation. On
the final day of the championships they won six medals, four of them gold.
The golden day for Czech canoe slalom
team on the Vltava River started with Vojtech Heger, who was the best in men's
U23 canoe final. 22-year-old canoeist who also has senior world championships
medal from the 2021 team event, was third at this year's U23 World
Championships, and now he stood on the highest podium position.
France's Mewen Debliquy, the reigning
U23 World Champion, picked up two penalty seconds which cost him the U23
European Champion title. At the end, he was 0.48 seconds behind. Bronze medal
went to Lennard Tuchscherer from Germany.
The 2020 Senior European Champion
Gabriela Satkova (CZE) added another title to her collection. She was the best
in women's U23 canoe final and was almost two and a half seconds faster than
her teammate Tereza Kneblova in second position. Fanchon Janssen from France
was third.
Klara Kneblova was another from the
excellent Czech team to stand on the highest podium position. In women's junior
C1 event Adriana Morenova from Czech Republic won silver medal, and Lucie Krech
from Germany finished third.
The only non-Czech gold medallist in
Sunday's canoe slalom part of the championships was Slovak canoeist Samuel
Krajci who was the best in men's junior C1 final. Ziga Lin Hocevar from
Slovenia repeated his success from Saturday's kayak final and won his second
silver medal of the championships in addition to two golds from team events.
Spain's Markel Imaz was third.
In the afternoon, the extreme slalom
competition was on the programme. Olga Samkova concluded the excellent
championships for the host nation with a gold medal in women's junior extreme
slalom final. Naja Pinteric from Slovenia was second and Arina Kontchakov from
Great Britain third.
Eva Alina Hocevar, older sister of
Ziga Lin who was second in junior canoe today, was crowned the U23 women's
extreme slalom European Champion after great final performance. Olatz Arregui
from Spain was second and Eva Pietracha from France won bronze medal.
Titouan Castryck from France won his
second gold medal at this championships in men's junior extreme slalom final.
He was the best already on Saturday in men's junior kayak final. His colleague
from the French team Martin Cornu was second and Edward McDonald from Great
Britain third.
Spain won gold medal in men's U23
extreme slalom final thanks to Pau Echaniz. Second and third place went to
France. Anatole Delassus was second and reigning U23 World Champion Gael
Adisson finished the final race in third place.
