FINA ULTRAMARATHON SWIM SERIES 2021 French team claims inaugural Ultramarathon golds and women's silver in Ohrid (MKD)

France's Oceane Cassignol and Axel Reymond clinched gold in Lake Ohrid, North Macedonia, earlier today (Saturday August 21), while teammate Caroline Jouisse secured the women's silver medal at stake in the inaugural meet of the 2021 FINA UltraMarathon Swim Series.

The swimmers all completed a 25km course today as the winners Reymond and Cassignol touched home in 5h10m31s00 and 5h16m39s3 respectively. Reymond, the current 25km World champion, repeated his victory from 2019 (5h20m55s3). Cassignol was the runner-up of the Doha 10km Marathon Swim Series in March this year.

France's success in Macedonia this weekend was also confirmed by a second place for Jouisse in 5h45m42s20, demonstrating the dominance of the nation in the discipline. Similarly to the previous edition in 2019, Pilar Geijo (ARG) closed the Ohrid podium today in 5h47m21s40, 3 minutes faster than in 2019 (5h50m30s2).

In the men's race, Edoardo Stochino of Italy took silver in 5h10m32s00, while national star Evgenij Pop Acev finished third in 5h10m34s50.
