Finalizó este sábado el XIV Campeonato Sudamericano Más¬ter de Natación, que se desa¬rrolló con gran éxito desde el martes en el Centro Acuático Nacional de Asunción. Esta cita, que reunió a los mejores nadadores de esta parte del continente, de todas las eda¬des y en ambas ramas, tam¬bién contó con la participa¬ción de invitados de España, México, Estados Unidos y Panamá.
En carpas paraguayas este certamen fue altamente posi¬tivo, ya que arrasó en la cose¬cha de medallas de todo tipo; además, varios nadadores impusieron nuevos récords sudamericanos.
Así tenemos que en la primera jornada, Benjamín Hockin estableció una nueva marca sudamericana en los 100 metros libres con un registro de 54:14 para colgarse la pre¬sea de oro.
En el segundo día, Renato Prono impuso un nuevo regis¬tro al ganar los 100 metros pecho en la categoría 25-29 años, con tiempo de 1:03:51.
Mientras que en el tercer día, dos postas se encarga¬ron de imponer nuevas mar¬cas a nivel regional. La posta 4x50 libres, conformada por Alfredo Carillo, Benjamín Hockin, Rolando Cubero y Diego Centurión, paró el cro¬nómetro en 1:48:99 en la cate¬goría 160 a 199 años (se suma la edad de los 4 componentes de la posta).
También la posta 4x50 libre, 160 a 199 años, conformada por los citados más arriba, logró nuevo récord sudamericano, con un tiempo de 1:36:81.En la penúltima jornada del viernes, Benjamín Hockin y Renato Prono volvieron a brillar, impo¬niendo nuevas marcas.
Hockin lo hizo en los 100 libres, 30-34 años, con tiempo de 50:20; por su parte, Prono lo obtuvo en los 50 pecho, 24 a 29 años, con 27:79. Ayer, en el cierre del Sudamericano, nuevamente Prono alcanzó nuevo registro en los 200 metros pecho, categoría 24-29 años, con tiempo de 2:22:79. Hoy se cumple la única jornada del Sudamericano en Aguas Abiertas, en 1.500 y 3.000 metros, frente al Deportivo Sajonia, a partir de la 8:30.¬
