members of the U.S. National Team, 17 members of the U.S. National Junior Team,
13 American Olympians and 11 American record holders. Athletes representing 105
teams, countries or universities will descend on Mission Viejo at this final
meet of the series in 2023.
Wednesday’s finals and Saturday’s
finals, along with all prelim sessions, will be streamed on
www.usaswimming.org/watch. Prelims take place Thursday through Saturday
beginning at 9 a.m. PT while finals will be at 5 p.m. PT for the
Wednesday-Saturday sessions. A full schedule of broadcasts on Peacock and CNBC
can be found here.
Before racing kicks off, here are a
few things to look for in Mission Viejo:
Last tune-up before Nationals: For
athletes vying for spots on squads competing internationally this summer, this
TYR Pro Series event represents one of the final opportunities for elite
competition on home soil just over a month out from the 2023 Phillips 66
National Championships (June 27-July 1) in Indianapolis.
Women’s free is where it’s at: Look
for intense competition from some of the best sprinting specialists in the
world who are slated to compete in the women’s 100m and 50m freestyle events.
The women’s 100m free kicks off the meet with the 50m freestyle bookending it.
Return of the champs: National Team
members Nic Fink (Morristown, N.J./Metro Atlantic Aquatic Club), Lilly King
(Evansville, Ind./Indiana Swim Club), Hunter Armstrong (Dover, Ohio/California
Aquatics/New York Athletic Club), Justin Ress (Cary, N.C./Mission Viejo
Nadadores) and Abbey Weitzeil (Santa Clara, Calif./California Aquatics) look to
defend their wins from a month ago in Westmont, Illinois.
The TYR Pro Swim Series Mission Viejo
marks the competition’s fourth stop in 2023; previous stops include Knoxville,
Tenn., Fort Lauderdale, Fla. and Westmont, Ill. The four-part competition
brings back the 50m events for the first time since 2019. For more on the
competition, visit the event page here. https://www.usaswimming.org/event/2023/05/17/default-calendar/tyr-pro-swim-series-mission-viejo
