The water will be boiling at the Aquatique Centre when the World’s best sprinters will meet for the 22nd edition of Euro Meet from 24 to 26 January 2020.
The organisers have succeeded in attracting some of the best sprinters of the world to Luxembourg. In the freestyle sprint, Brazilian Bruno Fratus, silver medallist at the 2017 and 2019 World Championships will meet the bronze medallist 2017 and European Champion 2018 Benjamin Proud from Great Britain.
Bruno Fratus missed the bronze medal at the Olympic Games 2012 as fourth over 50m freestyle by two hundredths of a second and had to undergo a shoulder operation in spring 2013.
In 2015, the 30-year-old celebrated his comeback with a bronze medal at the World Championships in Kazan and followed with a silver medal at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest and 2019 in Gwangju, where he was beaten only by the US superstar Caleb Dressel.
His five years younger rival Benjamin Proud won bronze in the 50m freestyle and bronze in the 50m butterfly at the World Championships in Budapest in 2017. Last year the Briton became European Champion at the European Championships in Glasgow on 50m freestyle.
The third superstar in sprint is Andriy Govorov. The Ukrainian is the reigning world record holder (22.27) on 50m butterfly and won bronze at the 2017 World Championships in Budapest as well as the 2016 European Championship gold medal in London and 2018 in Glasgow.
