🌊 At 70, Brazilian swimmer turns vacations into open-water marathons and inspires seniors to dive into health 🏊‍♂️✨

 

Traveling to swim — that’s the idea behind the project Swimming Through Postcards, created by Francismar Siviero, a 70-year-old swimmer who, after heart surgery, continues to compete in open-water events in Brazil and abroad.

More than sports tourism, his mission is to inspire others — especially seniors — to discover swimming as a path to health, resilience, and connection with nature.
“Every stroke is a message of life. I want to show that it’s possible to age with vitality, even when facing physical challenges. Open-water swimming is an accessible and transformative practice,” says Siviero.

🏖️ Vacations that turn into crossings
While many choose vacations to rest on beaches, Francismar explores them from the water — seas, lakes, and rivers. From swimming among fish in the turquoise Mediterranean in Nice to crossing the icy clear waters of Lake Maggiore in Italy, each destination becomes a journey of discovery.

The project has already reached Portugal, Italy, France, Uruguay, and several iconic regions of Brazil such as Copacabana, Bombinhas, Ilhabela, and Capitólio. Each experience goes beyond sport: it is also about environmental education and awareness.

Open-water swimming is booming worldwide, attracting more seniors seeking quality of life. It keeps the body active, strengthens the cardiovascular system, and boosts mental well-being.
“At 70, I keep swimming and encouraging others to see that it’s possible to live longer and better in the water,” Siviero emphasizes.

🌱 Beyond crossings, the project promotes workshops in schools, cleanups of beaches and rivers, tree planting, and events such as #SwimForTrees, #CleanLakeGuaiba, and #EscapeFromPrisonIsland.
