EUROPEAN CANOE ASSOCIATION PROUD TO ANNOUNCE COOPERATION WITH EUROVISION SPORT

We are just eight days away from the 2024 ECA I Feel Slovenia Canoe Slalom European Championships in Ljubljana – Tacen and the European Canoe Association is very proud to announce a partnership with the Eurovision Sport online streaming platform. This platform will bring exciting action with free public access - you will be able to follow the championships for free on the Eurovision Sport streaming platform, the only requirement is to sign up with your email.

The European Canoe Association is happy to confirm the cooperation with the new streaming platform www.eurovisionsport.com, which was launched in February 2024. Upon launch the European Broadcasting Union (EBU), who developed the platform, stated this is a “pioneering digital streaming platform, underpinning its commitment to enhance the amount of free public access to sports content across Europe.”

Eurovision Sport is available via desktop and mobile website – www.eurovisionsport.com – plus android and iOS apps. All you need to do is sign up with your email and then enjoy the content of the platform.

This year, two major ECA European Championships will be available at the Eurovision Sport - https://eurovisionsport.com/explore/sport?id=EBU-Home-Canoeing . First, the 2024 ECA I Feel Slovenia Canoe Slalom European Championships in Ljubljana – Tacen in May, followed by the 2024 ECA Canoe Sprint, Paracanoe and SUP European Championships in Szeged in June.

The televised content of both 2024 ECA European Championships, which require geoblocking, will be exclusively available on the Eurovision Sport platform and on TV channels with the TV rights agreements. In slalom, heats and kayak cross sprint competition will be streamed on the Canoe Europe Youtube Channel.

With this agreement the European Canoe Association became a part of an exciting Eurovision Sport Streaming Platform which includes Olympic Sports, such as athletics, biathlon, gymnastics, skiing, swimming ...

“Eurovision Sport is the EBU’s first direct-to-consumer service and marks a watershed in live sports broadcasting. Thousands of hours of content are set to be streamed in a single digital destination - complementing existing coverage provided by public service media – and showcasing every second of a wide variety of events,” was written in the press release upon the launch of the platform.

Welcoming the launch, Noel Curran, the EBU’s Director General, said: “Eurovision Sport is a game-changer for sports fans across Europe and right around the world.

“We firmly believe that sport should be for all. Our public service media Members already bring many of the world’s leading sporting events to audiences free-to-air and this new digital platform will provide wrap-around coverage, so they never have to miss a moment of their favourite event.

“Currently only a third of sports fans have access to premium sports channels. Through its free streaming, we hope Eurovision Sport will democratise access to live sports coverage and help grow individual sports through visibility and engagement, encouraging greater participation and making sure we are all ‘united by sport’.”

Commenting on the launch, Glen Killane, Executive Director for Sport at the EBU, said: “With the support of public service media, we’ll be able to provide sports federations with an unrivalled shop window for their sports around the world.

“In this fragmented digital world, it is difficult and expensive for sports fans to find and access the sport they love and for Sports Federations to attract new audiences. This digital platform provides a solution to both of those problems. Together with our Members, the EBU will ensure that every second of our events are available to all for free in every country in Europe and around the world.

“Diversity and inclusion are also at the heart of this platform. The EBU and our Members have the most gender balanced range of sports rights in the market and women’s sports will be a key part of our ongoing strategy. Eurovision Sport will be a trustworthy and safe place for women athletes and fans.”

Heats that are not being televised, will still be streamed on the Canoe Europe Youtube channel, all the other exciting action from Ljubljana – Tacen will be available on https://eurovisionsport.com/explore/sport?id=EBU-Home-Canoeing
