Iron Lady Katinka Hosszu starts at the Euro Meet

The organisers of the Euro Meet can announce another highlight in the line-up of the Euro Meet 2020 - the Hungarian Olympic champion and world record holder Katinka Hosszu will compete at the 22nd Euro Meet from 24 to 26 January. 
The Hungarian top swimmer, also known as Iron Lady, will kick off into the Olympic year with starts at the FINA Champions Series in China on January 14-15 in Shenzen and January 18-19 in Beijing before presenting herself to her fans in Luxembourg. 
Katinka is well known to Luxembourg's swimming family: at the Euro Meet 2013 she dared an experiment, swam all 15 individual events into the final and won eleven of them. During this time the now 30-year-old coined her nickname "Iron Lady". In the meantime, the level of the Euro Meet has reached such a high level that she would probably not succeed in all events. Especially Sweden's Olympic champion Sarah Sjöström, the British European champion Georgia Davies and the Italian 2016 European Championship bronze medallist Ilaria Bianchi will make her life difficult. 
At the European Short Course Championships in Glasgow last December Katinka won the title on 400m medley and thus - 15 years after her first podium at the European Championships in Vienna in 2004 - won her 90th international medal at European Championships, World Championships and Olympic Games.

Katinka ist den Luxemburger Schwimmsportfreunden bestens bekannt: beim Euro Meet 2013 wagte sie ein Experiment, schwamm über alle 15 Einzelstrecken ins Finale und konnte elf davon gewinnen. In dieser Zeit prägte die heute 30-Jährige ihren Beinamen "Iron Lady". Mittlerweile ist das Niveau des Euro Meet so hoch, dass ihr solch ein Coup wohl nicht mehr gelingen würde. Vor allem Schwedens Olympiasiegerin Sarah Sjöström, die britische Europameisterin Georgia Davies und die italienische EM-Dritte von 2016 Ilaria Bianchi werden ihr das Leben schwer machen. 
Bei den Kurzbahn-Europameisterschaften im Dezember in Glasgow gewann Katinka den Titel über 400m Lagen und damit – 15 Jahre nach ihrem ersten Podiumsplatz bei den Europameisterschaften in Wien 2004 – ihre 90. internationale Medaille bei EM, WM und Olympischen Spielen.
