Paralympics Ireland Barry McClements Smashes Personal Best to Book Place in 100m Butterfly Final

 

Barry McClements was in the second member of Team Ireland to take to the pool at the Para Swimming World Championships in Manchester this morning.

McClements smashed his personal best posting a time of 01:01.39 in his 100m Butterfly heat with his 3rd place finish sending him through to this evening’s final at 7:23pm. His time also meets the minimum qualification standard (MQS) for Paris 2024.

Speaking after his heat McClements said, “I’m really happy, that’s my first PB in that since 2021 and I’m trying to get a slot for Tokyo so for a morning swim that’s really good.”

In addition to McClement’s final this evening, Tokyo silver medallist Nicole Turner will start her championships off with the 200m IM final at 7:02pm.
