SWIM IRELAND Ciara McGing Bows Out of World Championships in Platform Preliminaries in Fukuoka, Japan


 

Ireland’s Ciara McGing has ended her World Championships in the preliminary stages of the 10M Platform in Fukuoka, Japan this morning.

The 22-year-old completed the preliminaries on 244.90 in 28th place, her highest score coming for her opening dive, an inward 2 ½ somersaults with 56 points.

Speaking after her even McGing commented “I’m obviously disappointed with my dives this morning, it was a shame as I have been training and feeling good. I’m ready to take a break before I head back to the States (Ohio State University). I’m determined to put myself in a strong position for Doha. Thank you for all the support from home, you guys are deadly’.

Following this morning’s preliminaries eighteen divers progressed to the semi-final. The top 12 are now confirmed for tomorrow’s final with all securing places for Paris 2024. McGing will have her second and final opportunity at Paris qualification in February 2024 at the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar.

Jake Passmore returns to action tomorrow in the preliminaries of the 3M Springboard. Sixty-eight divers will contest the competition with the top eighteen progressing to the semi-final. The top twelve after the semi-final will advance to the final and secure places for Paris 2024.

The World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka is the first of two opportunities for Irish divers to secure Olympic places, the second will be the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar in February 2024.

The World Aquatics Championships in Fukuoka is the first of three opportunities for Irish swimmers to secure Olympic places, the second will be the World Aquatics Championships in Doha, Qatar in February 2024, with the third being the Irish Open Swimming Championships in 2024.

Swimming at the World Aquatics Championships will take place from Sunday 23rd to Sunday 30th July.
