SWIM IRLAND Day 2 Results – Hodgins sets new Ulster Junior Record on Day 2


 

Three Irish swimmers returned to the blocks on Day 2 of the LEN European Junior Championships in Bucharest, Romania.

Evan Bailey was the first Irish swimmer in the pool on Day Two, the New Ross swimmer returned to action following a strong opening day performance in the 200m Freestyle. This morning, Bailey competed in the 200m Individual Medley, clocking a time of 2:07.00, just .28 seconds shy of a new personal best.

Grace Davison was the second swimmer in action for Team Ireland, the Ards SC swimmer set a new personal best, and broke her own Ulster Junior Record (26.66), in the 50m Freestyle 26.53 to finish first in her heat and just .04 outside of the semi-final places. Grace returns to the pool on Day four in the 100m Freestyle.

Speaking following her 50m Freestyle Heat, Grace said: “It was good, I won my heat and a new personal best, so I am really happy. I also broke my own Ulster Junior Record; it was a good swim. My next race is on Friday in the 100m Free, then I have the 200m IM on Saturday, so that should be fun!”.

Following his Irish international debut yesterday, Liam Custer returned to the blocks for the 1500m Heats, Liam swam a time of 16:06.66 to bring Day 2 to a close for Team Ireland. Liam will make his third appearance of the week on Friday in the 400m Individual Medley.

Evan Bailey and Thomas Leggett both return to action on day three, Bailey in the 100m Butterfly and Leggett the 50m Freestyle. Unfortunately, for medical reasons, Ellie McCartney and Molly Mayne have withdrawn from the 200m Breaststroke on Thursday. Molly will return home to prepare for the European Long Course Championships in August, while Ellie will be monitored and may return on Saturday for the 100m Breaststroke.
