Belgrade is ready for the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships



Majority of the European teams is already in Belgrade getting ready for the first of the two canoe sprint championships for Juniors and U23 in the season 2022. Serbian capital will host the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships between Thursday and Sunday.

After four years the European Canoe Sprinters are returning to Belgrade to fight for the European Champion titles. In 2018 this venue hosted Senior Canoe Sprint and Paracanoe European Championships, while one year prior to that Junior and U23 paddlers fought for the medals at the European Championships.

This year, organisers expect more than 900 participants from 33 European nations. There will be some new names on the startline and upcoming stars of the sport as well as athletes who have already made their mark in the senior European and World Championships and World Cups and have experiences also from the Olympic and European Games.

Thorbjorn Rask, Mariana Petrušova, Vanesa Tot, Anežka Paloudova, Laura Ruiz, Irene Bellan, Daniela Cociu and Maria Olarasu, Bojan Zdelar, Marija Dostanić, Pablo Grana, Roberts Lagzdins, Arturas Golovač, Maria Virik, Helena Wisniewska are just some of athletes who hope for good results on the Ada Ciganlija venue.

On Thursday, the 2022 ECA Junior and U23 Canoe Sprint European Championships will start with 1000 and 500 metres heats. On Friday, competitors will paddle in the semifinals of the 500 and 1000 metres events as well as in the 200 metres heats. The first sets of medals will be awarded on Saturday, when 1000 metres finals are on the programme. In the afternoon, the 200 metres semifinals will be held. On Sunday, the championships will conclude with 500 and 200 metres finals.
