More than 200 athletes from 17 countries ready to start in Tacen the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup

Ljubljana - Tacen, Slovenia, will host the ECA European Open Canoe Slalom Cup this weekend. More than 200 athletes from 17 countries are on the start list of the third race in this year's ECA European Open Canoe Slalom series.

The race in Tacen was supposed to be the fourth in the series this year, but the third race in Markkleeberg was cancelled due to the health situation. The race will also serve as a selection race for Slovenian national team which will start at the 2021 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships in Ivrea, as well as selection race for Croatian team and the Italian Olympic team.

Majority of the participants will be from the host nation, and they will be able to compare their form with colleagues from Austria, Brazil, Belgium, Slovakia, Croatia, Czech Republic, Italy, Spain, Switzerland, Sweden, Hungary, United States of America, Netherlands, Ukraine, Serbia and Romania.

Many World and European Championships, Olympic Games and World Cup medallists will start at the Sava River. Among the main favourites for the win will be locals Peter Kauzer, Benjamin Savšek, Luka Božič, Eva Terčelj and Urša Kragelj, but they will face tough competition. Slovak Matej Benuš, Italians Giovanni de Gennaro, Zeno Ivaldi, Raffaello Ivaldi, Stefanie Horn, Austrians Corinna Kuhnle, Viktoria Wolffhardt, Nadine Weratschnig, Spanish canoeist Miquel Trave. Czechs Martina Satkova, Michal Jane, Tereza Kneblova, Brazilian Ana Satila, Swede Isak Ohrstrom among others will be seeking their opportunities to reach the top.

On Saturday, the heats are on the programme, while on Sunday semifinal and final runs will follow. The competition will be held behind closed doors, but there will be livestreaming available on the Canoe Europe Youtube channel.
