The Legacy Of 43 by WOWSA

Outside Magazine touted James Lawrence's current attempt at completing 50 Ironman triathlons in 50 states in 50 days as one of the most hardcore endurance record attempts.

If anyone can do fifty 2.4-mile swims + fifty 112-mile bike rides + 50 26.2-mile runs 50 days in a row, Lawrence can. He has already completed 30 Ironman races in a year (in 11 countries) and has been training for this unprecedented attempt for two years.

After he started in Hawaii and then went on to Alaska and the rest of the continental United States, his logistics and operations required a tremendous amount of planning. As of July 4th, he has completed 29 full triathlons in 29 days and looking good to swim 120 miles, bike 5,600 miles and run 1,310 miles in a little more than 7 weeks.

When open water swimmers discuss the most hardcore endurance record in their own sport, it would be hard to overcome Alison Streeter's record that may never be broken: 43 successful solo crossings of the English Channel between 1982 and 2004.

During the 22-year period, the Queen of the Channel® swam 903 cumulative miles in a stretch of water whose conditions she could never predict. And she punctuated those crossing with dozens of other channel swims and marathon swims around the world from Catalina Channel and Manhattan Island Marathon Swim to the North Channel and the Isle of Wight while working as a currency trader and raising money for a variety of causes.

The Queen of the Channel®, named as one of the World's 50 Most Adventurous Open Water Women, has a legacy and record that may never be equalled:
