Chris Blakeslee(aka El Sharko) conducted test swims of 10 km and 20 km in Tomales Bay, north of San Francisco in Marin County on June 20th.
El Sharko whose oft-claim ("I never met a shark I didn't like") is an indication of his passion for all things open water. His custom-made turn buoys and event certificate [shown above] are symbolic of his love of sharks.
He explained to theMarathon Swimmers Forum(here), "We had a very successful 10K & 20K swim in “The Breeding Grounds of The Great White Shark” Tomales Bay on Saturday. Four 20K swimmers and fourteen 10K swimmers swam west from Chicken Ranch Beach (near Inverness) towards Hog Island and back in 65°F calm water with fog breaking to clear skies and 72°F beach weather.
This was a test swim, but it went so well that I am working on a plan to enlarge the swim for fun and as a training swim tool for those preparing for a Lake Tahoe, Catalina, and English Channel."
