Following consultation with the city of Fukuoka, Japan Swimming Federation, organisers, athletes, coaches, technical committees, TV partners and sponsors, FINA is pleased to announce that the FINA World Championships in Fukuoka (JPN), initially scheduled for the summer of 2021, will now take place from May 13-29, 2022.
“After liaising with the relevant stakeholders and receiving feedback from them, we have no doubt that the decision taken will provide the best possible conditions for all participants at the Championships. We look forward to witnessing the world’s best aquatic athletes from around the world competing in the city of Fukuoka (JPN) in 2022,” said FINA President Dr Julio C. Maglione. “At a time of unprecedented uncertainty, FINA hopes the announcement of these dates will allow for some clarity in planning for all concerned.”
The FINA Family would like to thank the authorities of the City of Fukuoka, the Japan Swimming Federation, Organising Committee of the FINA World Championships, and all our partners for their commitment and support in reaching this decision.
Moreover, the FINA World Masters Championships will take place across the island of Kyushu (JPN), from May 31-June 9, 2022.

World Triathlon Executive Board has approved the comprehensive and exhaustive World Triathlon COVID-19 prevention guidelines for Event Organisers document. These Guidelines are to help event organisers cope efficiently and effectively with COVID-19 “new normality”. The recommendations have been prepared by the sport department with feedback from the Technical, Medical, Athletes and Coaches committee, as well as the recommendations for social gatherings from the World Health Organization.
"I am absolutely proud of the excellent work done by the World Triathlon team on putting in place this comprehensive Guide, which will help organisers all across the world to plan for their events in the near future", expressed World Triathlon President and IOC member, Marisol Casado. "Obviously we will all be impacted by this crisis, and our events will look different from now on, but everyone should understand that all these measures are to protect the health and safety of everyone involved in our events, from athletes to spectators, coaches and officials", she said.
The IOC and the World Health Organization have advised that during the evolving COVID-19 outbreak, effective protection of the health and safety of athletes must remain a priority. Event organisers must ensure all athletes are covered by adequate measures to protect their health and that they have access to prompt medical care while participating in the event. Event organisers must put in place preventive measures to stop the transmission of infection and put in place mitigation measures to minimise the risk of infection. Event organisers must ensure that any athlete or participant in an event on their territory, who needs immediate medical care, is given access to medical facilities.
Amongst others, the recommendations include the monitoring, at events, of participants’ health, and the daily taking of body temperature. The use of masks and gloves is also recommended in all non-competition activities
Each local organizing committee should prepare a plan with the local authorities covering three stages: Risk assessment, Surveillance and Response, and the venue design should respect social distancing and hygiene provisions. Social activities, other than the competition itself, should be cancelled. the Guidelines will also have an impact on medal ceremonies and race briefings. Going forward, every single aspect of the competition will be reviewed taking into consideration the social distancing in the: start, swim, swim exit, bike, run, finish, penalty boxes, aid stations, etc.
Anyone, including athletes, coaches, technical officials, media or spectators, who feels unwell (i.e. fever, cough) should stay at home and keep away from the event. In case of symptoms suggestive of acute respiratory illness before, during or after travel, the athletes are encouraged to seek medical attention and share travel history with their healthcare provider.
While the advice given in these guidelines has been developed using the best information
available, it is intended purely as guidance, and its application will depend on the current local authorities restrictions in place in the town/city where the event will take place. World Triathlon sport department will work with all event organisers to implement in the most effective way these recommendations.

The Executive Board of World Triathlon met via videoconference on April 30 to review the preparations for the second half of the year and the next season, and to give the green light to World Triathlon COVID-19 prevention guidelines for Event Organizers document which includes amongst others guidelines for maintaining social distancing and measures necessary to guarantee the health and safety of all participants.
“During this time of the pandemic impacting the whole world, our team has been very productive. Amongst other things they are focusing on the provision of events for athletes in the future so that they can return to competition when it is safe and fair to do so, and also significantly improving communication with all our stakeholders (National Federations, Committees, athletes, coaches, officials) to not only ascertain their current situations, but also to consider the effect decisions and actions taken by the organization, will have on all of them”, explained World Triathlon President and IOC member, Marisol Casado.
With the intention to resume activities as soon as it is feasible, the Board was updated on the current status of the World Triathlon and Continental Confederations races planned for the next months. The Board was apprised of conversations currently taking place with event organisers and National Federations in relation to a mini-season in the latter part of the year, if conditions are favorable.

The Executive Board also approved the Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) with World Athletics to cooperate on training courses and seminars for Triathlon Competition Medical Delegates. This MOU provides World Triathlon-labelled Competition Medical Delegates with the opportunity to register and take part in the Race Emergency Medicine Courses (REMC) organized by World Athletics.
The REMC is a programme that comprises a distance learning component (e-learning platform) and a day and a half of practical sessions and visits organised on site at World Athletics-labelled road race. In order to be certified by World Athletics for two years, World Triathlon health professionals should pass one of the six e-learning and the practical sessions organised by World Athletics every year.

The LEN Bureau held a videoconference and decided to cancel the European Junior Championships in all disciplines for 2020.
This summer would have seen the best young swimmers racing in Aberdeen, the divers in Edinburgh, the artistic swimmers in Malta, the open water swimmers in France while Rome and Volos would have hosted the respective editions of the U19 water polo Europeans.
Due to the Covid-19 crisis in Europe, the LEN Bureau had to take the painful decision to cancel all these events. The respective technical committees will prepare proposals if those age groups who have lost their chance to compete this summer (as they are to become over-aged next year) should be eligible to take part in 2021 or not.
The summer and autumn legs of the LEN Open Water Cup are also canceled.
In the coming weeks, the Bureau will discuss the options to finish the water polo club season and to find best possible dates for the 2020 European Aquatics Championships. The event would have started in ten days in Budapest but has already been postponed.

Dansk Svømmeunion ser sig grundet COVID-19 situationen desværre nødsaget til at aflyse TrygFonden Christiansborg Rundt denne sommer. Det sker på baggrund af regeringens forbud mod afholdelse af alle festivaler og events med over 500 deltagere gældende frem til og med august.
Den spektakulære event, der hvert år afholdes sidste lørdag i august, og som trækker flere tusinde motionssvømmere til hovedstaden, kommer nu også på den triste liste over aflyste arrangementer grundet COVID-19.
Projektleder i Dansk Svømmeunion, Caroline Kleemann Falster, udtaler:
- Det er med meget stor beklagelse, at vi nu ser os nødsaget til at aflyse TrygFonden Christiansborg Rundt. Eventen er blevet en stor og fast tradition for tusinder af motionssvømmere, der hvert år møder op til en festlig dag sammen med venner, kollegaer og familie. Vi har alle glædet os til den 29. august, men vi må desværre sande, at med de udmeldinger, der er kommet fra regeringens side, ser vi ingen anden udvej end at aflyse. Trods talrige overvejelser om en alternativ løsning for i år, har det desværre ikke været muligt at nå frem til nogen anden konklusion end at aflyse. Nu må vi lige sunde os oven på den svære beslutning, og så vender vi stærkt tilbage i 2021, hvor vi glæder os til at tage imod en masse friske åbent vand-svømmere den 28. august, udtaler Caroline Kleemann Falster.
På vej mod første udsolgte begivenhed i år
TrygFonden Christiansborg Rundt kunne ellers i år have fejret, at det er 15. gang eventen arrangeres, og der var derfor planlagt lidt ekstra godt til deltagerne.
Eventen havde sin premiere tilbage i 2006, og siden da er deltagerantallet gået fra 260 til over 4.400 deltagere i 2019. Tilmeldingerne i år, før COVID-19 ramte os alle, gik forrygende med 800 flere tilmeldte i marts 2020 sammenlignet med marts 2019. En udvikling, som pegede i retning af en udsolgt begivenhed i år for første gang nogensinde.
Alle tilmeldte deltagere i år tilbydes at få overflyttet deres deltagelse til 2021 og alternativt få tilbageført deltagergebyret.
Dansk Svømmeunion håber på snarest at kunne åbne for tilmeldingerne til TrygFonden Christiansborg Rundt 2021.

The Swimming by Postcards Project is an initiative by FrancisSwim.com.br web portal which aims to take swimmers to visit and swim in tourist hotspots in Europe such as Cascais, Sesimbra, Portimão in Portugal, Lake Maggiore in Italy, Lake Guaiba in Brazil, among many others. The project started with a small group, but today it already brings together about 90 independent swimmers. At this moment, activities are interrupted, but our website and social networks have focused their content on at-home workouts to strengthen the musculature of those who do not have a swimming pool available. We hope to reactivate the project as soon as possible, following all the necessary hygiene and social distancing recommendations by the health agencies.

Søndag den 3. maj er det officiel Svøm Ud-dag. Åbent vand-svømningens pendant til køerne, der kommer på græs. Normalt en begivenhed med stort fokus på de sociale aspekter ved åbent vand og de fællesskaber, der opstår, når man deler samme passion.
Sådan bliver det ikke i år. Coronakrisen har sat en stopper for aktiviteter med forsamlinger på mere end 10 personer. Derfor må vi tænke anderledes for at dyrke vores sport i fællesskab men med afstand. Se anbefalinger til åbent vand-svømning med COVID 19 forholdsregler.
Derfor introducerer Bevæg dig for livet – Svømning konceptet ’Danmark svømmer ud’, som er en virtuel svømmeevent med et ganske håndgribeligt svømmeelement. I stedet for at mødes i store flokke på søndag den 3. maj, vil man over hele landet kunne se mindre grupper af svømmere gå i vandet – i både søer, åer og havet.
”Vi håber naturligvis på, at vi med dette tiltag kan give den enkelte en følelse af at være en del af et større fællesskab, selv om man kun kan svømme sammen med få udvalgte. Ud over naturoplevelsen, så er sammenholdet og fællesskabet vigtigt for åbent vand-svømmere, og vi har de senere år set en stigning af sociale arrangementer netop i forbindelse med Svøm Ud-dagen,” siger Carsten Jokumsen fra projekt Bevæg dig for livet – Svømning.
Når svømmerne har svømmet, kan de på eventsiden indtaste den svømmede distance og se, hvor langt andre svømmere over hele landet har svømmet, forklarer Carsten Jokumsen og uddyber:
”Faktisk har vi ikke tidligere kunnet samle hele landet i forbindelse med Svøm Ud-dagen. Det har typisk været små, lokale arrangementer. I år forsøger vi at samle hele Danmark, og det bliver spændende at se, hvor langt der bliver svømmet.”
Uanset hvor I landet man svømmer, så er det vigtigt, at man ikke svømmer alene. Derfor opfordrer Bevæg dig for Livet – Svømning til, at man som minimum svømmer to sammen – dvs. sammen med en såkaldt svømmemakker. Man kan også svømme flere sammen, men tallet må ikke overstige 10, og man skal huske at holde afstand.
