As the COVID-19 pandemic spreads, FINA would like to reiterate its concern for all those affected. FINA is well aware of the issues faced by aquatics athletes around the world, especially with regard to training and pool access.
Moreover, following today’s joint announcement by the IOC and Tokyo 2020 Organisers, concerning the postponement of the Olympic Games for 2021, FINA will now work closely with the host organising committee of the 2021 FINA World Championships in Fukuoka, with the Japan Swimming Federation and with the Japanese public authorities, in order to determine flexibility around the dates of the competition, if necessary and in agreement with the IOC.
FINA's main goal is to ensure the success of its showcase event, while considering the importance of athlete wellbeing and maximising opportunities for aquatics stars to compete at the highest level.

FINA informed today all 209 National Member Federations that its COVID-19 Taskforce, in consultation with the IOC and the Organisers of the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, decided to postpone the staging of the following qualifying/test events:
- FINA Diving World Cup - scheduled to take place in Tokyo (JPN), on April 21-26, 2020
- FINA Artistic Swimming Olympic Games Qualification Tournament - scheduled to take place in Tokyo (JPN), on April 30-May 3, 2020
These events are postponed to June 2020 (place and exact dates to be confirmed).
In its message to all Members, FINA assured that “is doing its utmost to preserve athletes, coaches and officials' health, while being perfectly aware of the severe limitations they are enduring concerning their training and normal preparation for the Olympic Games.”
Moreover, “FINA is striving to preserve the integrity of the qualification procedure, adapting it in accordance with the challenging times we are living.”

European Canoe Association and British Canoeing were unfortunately forced to cancel the planned 2020 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships on the 2012 Olympic Course in Lee Valley due to Covid-19 pandemic. The news comes together with many cancellations of major sporting events scheduled for this spring and early summer.
It was a very difficult decision for the organisers and ECA. “It is regretted that this has happened, but there was no realistic alternative,” said Mr. Albert Woods OBE, president of the European Canoe Association.
“The ICF and the IOC agreed that the European Canoe Slalom selection in Lee Valley could not go ahead because of the Coronavirus which had prevented competitors travelling from their countries of origin. Therefore the ECA agreed that the ECA Canoe Slalom Championships would not go ahead,” added Mr. Woods OBE.
As per the ICF Policy the Canoe Slalom World ranking will be used for Olympic Selection not the planned final standings after the European Championships.
European Canoe Association will now look for a possible new location and organiser of the European Championships later in the year. In case there will be no interest to host this sporting event, this year there will be no ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships.

Those that have purchased tickets for the 2020 ECA Canoe Slalom European Championships will receive a refund. The event’s ticket partner, See Tickets, will contact all ticket holders who are all entitled to a face value refund. See Tickets will automatically return the money within 30 days via the method by which the ticket was purchased. Transaction fees and any other expenses incurred will not be refunded.

The Local Organising Committee (LOC) of the AJ Bell World Triathlon Leeds have made the difficult decision to postpone the event from the original date of the 6th – 7th June 2020, due to the current situation with the COVID-19 outbreak.
When hosting major events, the welfare and well-being of everyone involved in the event, including athletes, officials, spectators, volunteers and staff is the absolute priority.
The UK Government’s current advice is to increase social distancing and has suggested that mass gatherings or events that require emergency services provision will not be able to go ahead. Therefore the LOC has taken the decision of postponing the event.
The LOC are extremely disappointed for the athletes, who have been training hard and were looking forward to competing in the event, and for the staff and volunteers who have been working tirelessly to deliver an outstanding event. However, with the evolution and fast-paced change of the situation regarding COVID-19, this is now the most responsible and best course of action to take.
The LOC are in consultation with relevant authorities and partners to find a suitable date to reschedule the event with an update to be provided by the 30th April.
Participant entries will automatically be transferred to the rescheduled date. Those who have grandstand tickets for the event will be contacted directly regarding their purchase.
Additional information and updates will be shared with participants as appropriate and will be made available via email, on our website and our Facebook and Twitter accounts. Please do bear with us as we navigate through this difficult time, we look forward to welcoming all athletes, spectators and partners to Leeds on the re-scheduled date.

Dear swimming community,
As I am sure you will all be aware, yesterday afternoon the Government announced further measures to reduce the spread of the Covid-19 virus (Coronavirus) banning all gatherings of more than 500 people. In response to this announcement, Swimming NZ has made the following decisions relating to our national championship events over the coming months keeping the health, safety and wellbeing our swimming community at the centre of our decision making process:
Aon NZ Open Championships:
The Aon NZ Open Championships will be postponed until early June (likely 2nd-6th). The running of this event will depend on Government advice at the time with a final go/no-go decision being made on Monday 11 May. If the Championships are further postponed or cancelled, we will run an Olympic trial event for long-list athletes only starting on Tuesday 2nd June. In order for any ‘new’ Olympic trial event to go ahead (outside of our original Aon NZ Open Championships) we will need to wait for FINA Approval which we have sought and expect a positive response within 24 hours.
Note: The Fina Swimming Technical Officials School to be held in Auckland prior to the Aon NZ Open Championships has also been cancelled.
Additional Olympic Time-trial Event:
Given the postponement of the Aon NZ Open Championships that were also a FINA approved Olympic qualification event, we will hold an additional Olympic qualification time-trial for long-list athletes in Auckland at the National Aquatic Centre commencing on Tuesday 31 March again subject to FINA approval which we have already sought and expect a positive response within the next 24 hours. Our President David Gerrard is currently on the FINA Covid-19 taskforce so is at the coalface in terms of FINA’s decision making around changes to Olympic qualification events and is updating us as information is coming to hand.
Long-list athletes will be permitted to swim at both trial events (Additional Olympic Time-trial Event + the Aon NZ Open Champions) effectively providing long-list athletes with an additional Olympic qualification opportunity. The current Swimming NZ Olympic Nomination Criteria will be amended accordingly. All long-list athletes will be contacted within the next 24 hours to discuss the above and confirm details. This additional Olympic time-trial will only incorporate those events being qualified for and no spectators will be permitted at this event.
Aon NZ National Age Group Championships (NAGs):
This event has been cancelled. We discussed at length about other options for running this event including significantly reducing the number of athletes, coaches, managers, technical officials and spectators (approximately 1,300 in 2019) to get it under the 500 mark and moving to another date in 2020 but have decided that at this time, the best decision was to cancel the event.
Division II Championships (Div II):
This event has been cancelled for the same reasons given for NAGs above.
Note: The Fina Swimming Technical Officials Clinic to be held in Dunedin prior to Div IIs has also been cancelled.
NZ Secondary School Open Water Championships:
This event has been cancelled following a statement by the NZ Secondary Schools Council last night that all events on the NZ Secondary Schools Council calendar be suspended indefinitely.
Oceania Championships, LA Invitational and Junior Pan Pacs:
Information relating to qualification for these events, assuming they go ahead, will be circulated shortly.
All event entry fees and spectator tickets for NAGs and Div II will be refunded over the coming days.
We totally understand the great impact that the above decisions will have on many of you that have been training and planning to race over the coming months, but we are in unprecedented times requiring unprecedented decisions. The health, safety and wellbeing our swimming community must come first as we navigate our way through these difficult times.
We will continue to monitor the situation daily and cannot rule out the further impact to the Aon NZ Open Championships and/or the Additional Olympic Time-trial Event but we will do everything we can to keep you all updated as quickly as we possibly can.

With a continued focus on the health and wellness of USA Water Polo members and the water polo community in regards to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, we are announcing the cancellation of several upcoming events. This comes on the heels of the CDC announcement recommending no gatherings of 50 or more people for the next eight weeks.
Following a communication earlier today from FINA (Fédération internationale de natation) regarding the cancellation and/or postponement of all FINA World League water polo events over the next three months, USA Water Polo has announced the cancellation of the 2020 FINA Men's and Women's Intercontinental Tournament. The event was scheduled to be held at the IU Natatorium in Indianapolis, Indiana this April 28-May 3.
In addition, following the cancellation of competition by multiple conferences competing in women's collegiate water polo for the spring season, the inaugural USA Water Polo Division III Women's National Championship has been canceled. This event was scheduled for May 8-10 in Southern California. The event will now be scheduled for May, 2021.
Lastly, week three of the 2020 National League, scheduled for April 4-5 in Thousand Oaks, CA and the National League Championship/Fisher Cup set for May 16-17 in La Jolla, CA has been canceled.
All other USA Water Polo events will be evaluated in the coming weeks.

The International Triathlon Union, in consultation with USA Triathlon, the local organising committee and the authorities in Florida, today announced they have been forced to cancel the Sarasota-Bradenton PATCO Paratriathlon American Championships, Sprint Triathlon American Cup and Junior North American Championships set for Saturday, March 14, due to the rapidly evolving situation surrounding coronavirus (COVID-19).
The cancellation was made after Sarasota County issued a decision to ban all events with anticipated attendance of 250 or more individuals in order to mitigate risk and protect the county’s most vulnerable populations.
The safety of all athletes, event staff, officials and the community at large remains the highest priority for ITU, USA Triathlon and SANCA.
